BUY NOW! Captain Roberts: Memoirs of a Pyrate Captain

Captain William Fly

was a boatswain aboard a slave ship.   He led a mutiny, killed the Captain, renamed the ship Fame's Revenge and became a pirate.   Known for his cursing rages and inhuman brutality, Fly often whipped his captives for up to one hundred lashes.   He plundered several ships along the New England coast.   He was captured off of the coast of Newburyport and was bought to Boston for his execution.   Fly went to his execution with a nosegay in his hand.   After climbing the gibbet he reproached the hangman for not knowing his trade.   Fly remade the noose and placed it about his own neck with his own two hands.   Fly was hung at Nix's Mate island in Boston Harbor.   His pirate career only lasted one month.
